Visitor Review:

Niagra Falls Canadian side: Embassy Suites..What a view!

We, my HB and 8yo son just returned from a road trip to Niagra Falls. This is truely, an at least once in a life time places to visit. It was a request from my son who had read a book about it and we were looking for someplace to go for spring break. We researched many of the hotels, many of which offer a “Falls” view, but chose Embassy Suites because of their breakfast, managers reception and a special offer which included a $45
dinner voucher and free bus shuttle to 4 areas during your stay.
-Getting there…we drove from home, not a teriible drive just long.
It took about 5-6 hours. Make sure you have pass ports or ID,
even for children as you are thoroughly questioned when crossing the border both ways.
-Hotel…This ES delivered the expected fine level of service as the many others we have stayed at even tho it was in Canada. The valet service was very friendly . However, they park your car “somewhere”. You are informed it takes at least 15 mins to get, which is true. There is very limited parking for this and many hotels and the only choice is valet parking which is an extra $20/per day. We had booked a falls view upper floors. My HB asked for an upgrade and was offered a presidential suite for an addtional fee of $40 per night. We accepted and what a room. It had a panoramic view of both American and Canadian falls,
2 person jacuzzi tub and fire place. Yes, it was pricey but well worth it for the spectacular view. There are many other name brand hotels that have views, but we feel ES had the best. For those on a budget, the ES has rooms with a city view for much less, along with a huge choice of hotels, motels, casinos & BB.
The only negatives: many hidden Canadian taxes which escalate
the cost of the room by 30-50 dollars when you include the valet
parking, along with the same room costing 30-50 dollars more on friday and saturday stays. Also, not impressed with the pool and hot tubs. Very crowded and did not appear clean enough for me. There were 2 very nice hot tubs, but they were full of kids with gogles, t shirts swim shoes, ect. The managers reception
was from 3:30 to 10:30 with snacks from 3:30 to 7:30. You are issued a ticket for only 1 cocktail pp per day and that is it! But you can purchase additional drinks if wanted. The breakfast was well managed. You are seated by a hostess to tables in the Keg resturante which has an excellent view of the falls. A waitress takes and brings you coffee and juice orders. The buffet is pretty much the standard ES style and quality. We were pleased with the shuttle service which ran every 30 mins. It does drop you off at 2 of the casinos but you can easily walk to many of the tourist areas from there.
-Touring the sites…you can take several tours from the hotel for a fee which takes you to many of the attractions, walk or drive.
However parking is very limited and there are parking fees everyplace ranging from 6-15 dollars. We were still in “off season” so much to our disappointment Marineland, Maid of the mist and walk behind the falls was not open. The area is full of your typical touristy places to spend money, wax museum, believe it or nots, golf, shops, eateries, casinos, ect. So be prepared to spend $$ if you bring children. There are also several indoor water parks but also $$$ unless you are staying at that hotel.
-A nice surprise..we took a car ride to Niagra on the Lake. A very
pretty & historic area with lovely shops and eateries. This is a very scenic ride along the river gorge to Lake Erie and we noticed
several wine route signs. WOW, we never knew that this region is a hidden gem of breath taking vineyards and over 50 wineries that you can visit. The area is also exclusively known for Icewine.
This area is a must for wine lovers!
