Why not stay at the edge of Vieux Montreal - close to the tres Francais old quarter, right around the corner from the Basilica of Notre Dame and scores of great restaurants - and yet within a hop, skip & jump to the Latin Quarter, McGill, and Mont Royal itself? Paying around $200US for a secure hotel - huge suites - where you get a marvelous, huge free breakfast and many, many free drinks (and bar snacks) at the silver, Jetsonesque bar - is a deal. You can sit in courtyards and old stone manses and eat and drink - but I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Montreal. We went for a girls’ getaway and would definitely return.
