Visitor Review:

My teen son and I stayed at Embassy Suites for a ski week in March 2007. It was exactly as advertised, clean, quiet, very well-appointed rooms with spotless bathroom and fresh linens.

My son slept on the pullout in the living room, which also had a TV, kitchenette and dining table with 4 chairs. The bathroom opened off the main room. My bedroom was spacious, with a large comfortable bed, dressing table, dressers, closet and TV.

Enjoyed the free breakfast and afternoon happy hour, was a great chance to power up in the morning and then wind down after a day on the slopes.

Very close to Heavenly Gondola, maybe a 3 minute walk (which my son did in his ski boots, although there are lockers at the base.)

Front desk was very good. I had ordered a camera prior to checking in and asked to have it delivered to the hotel; they kept it in the safe and delivered it to me on check-in, many hotels would not have done that.

When I called the concierge desk one day and did not get a call back, management sent us champagne and chocolates to compensate! Front desk also allowed me to make a free long distance call up the mountain one day when I was trying to locate my son. Front desk couldn’t do enough for us, they could give lessons to other hoteliers! The concierge desk was pushing their time-share, but when told no, they left you alone.

Similarly, bellmen were excellent and organized, with a ski check right inside the door, you felt your expensive ski gear was safe. Didn’t like paying $20 a day for parking and next time I wouldn’t bother with a car until we were leaving, but we were travelling through Northern California after. If you fly into Reno, they have frequent transportation for $60 right to the door from the airport.

Pool and hot tub were clean, with a nice patio with a view of Heavenly.

Took a tour on the Tahoe Queen, a “must”! The view from the lake is breathtaking, and the water is shades of turquoise and emerald green. If you go snowmobiling at Zephyr Cove, you can add a lake cruise (usually $33) for $9.

Only real disappointment is that our room had no view, while other properties in Tahoe do.

We have seen the Alps in Europe, and while not as large an area, Lake Tahoe is one of the most beautiful areas we have ever seen. Even if you are not a skier, there is a place to sit atop Heavenly and enjoy the sun, and the Gondola ($20) has a stop-off point for pictures half-way up.

I would recommend Embassy Suites to friends.
